Senior Frontend Developer (Shopify)

Office based 2-3 days a week. Salary DOE.

We’re seeking a Senior Frontend Developer (Shopify) to drive the production of high-quality Shopify projects from concept through to completion. You’ll play a pivotal role in architectural decision-making and lead the development of complex projects while mentoring junior developers. This role requires a deep knowledge of Shopify and frontend best practices, combined with a passion for performance optimization, scalability, and user-centric design.

Responsibilities

High-Quality Shopify Development:

  • Lead and develop sophisticated Shopify projects, making architectural decisions to ensure scalability and maintainability.

  • Translate visual designs, tickets, and briefs into seamless, interactive Shopify experiences.

  • Build and enhance custom Shopify themes and applications using Liquid, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS.

  • Optimize Shopify stores for peak performance, ensuring compliance with non-functional requirements and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in an agile workflow, conducting code reviews to uphold quality and empower team members.


    • Frontend Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Act as the go-to expert for Shopify within the team, offering guidance on complex technical challenges.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers, providing actionable feedback and supporting their professional growth.

  • Partner with UX Designers, Project Managers, and Account Managers to validate designs and enhance user experience.


    • Ownership of Frontend Technology Stack:

  • Serve as the primary authority on Shopify development within Velstar, overseeing tools and frontend architecture.

  • Introduce and implement new tools and methodologies to boost development efficiency.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on all frontend frameworks and processes, accessible to the wider team.


    • Continuous Professional Development:

  • Stay current with the latest e-commerce and frontend development trends and tools.

  • Participate in ongoing mentorship, sharing expertise with colleagues and contributing to Velstar’s technical knowledge base.


    What you'll bring

    • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in Shopify development with proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Liquid templating, and Shopify APIs.
    • Bonus Skills: Knowledge of Hydrogen, Oxygen, NextJS, RemixJS, TypeScript, Chakra UI, and TailwindCSS is a plus.
    • Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in a senior developer role, with the ability to lead projects, mentor teammates, and provide clear technical guidance.
    • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Critical thinking with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
    • Effective Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and provide clear, constructive feedback.
